  • The Office is seeking a highly capable individual with the skills and drive to work on behalf of the public in improving the quality of healthcare and education for all Minnesotans by providing legal representation to the State’s health\-related licensing boards and the Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board (“PELSB”) in their resolution of complaints alleging misconduct by healthcare providers and educators. The Office's Health and Teacher Licensing Division represents Minnesota’s 16 health\-related licensing boards and PELSB in litigation and administrative actions related to the boards’ licensure and regulatory oversight of healthcare providers and educators. Key functions of this position include providing legal representation to the boards at meetings and disciplinary conferences, in contested cases at the Court of Administrative Hearings, and in matters in district and appellate courts.

    Attorneys are responsible for all phases of administrative actions and civil litigation, including coordinating investigations, preparing and filing pleadings and briefs, appearing at hearings, engaging in negotiations and settlement conferences, trying cases at the Court of Administrative Hearings and in district court, and handling appeals. Cases attorneys handle may involve allegations of substandard practice, unprofessional or unethical conduct, fraudulent or abusive billing, improper prescribing of controlled substances, sexual misconduct, and violation of professional boundaries.   • ### Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduation from a law school accredited by the ABA and actively licensed in good standing to practice law in the State of Minnesota
  • Interest in handling cases on behalf of the State’s health\-related licensing boards and PELSB before administrative courts, district courts, and appellate courts
  • Excellent research skills, and written and oral communication skills (a cover letter with a writing sample is required with application submission)
  • Ability to:
  • + litigate independently and make strategic decisions as lead counsel on a diverse caseload

    + multitask by managing a high\-volume caseload and meeting deadlines

    + contribute positively to a team and interact successfully with colleagues, clients, counsel, judges, and members of the public

    + work in an inclusive, creative, and collaborative work environment

    To be considered at the S2 level, candidates must have at least 6 years of directly related experience. To be considered at the S3 level, candidates must have at least 12 years of directly related experience.
