We are looking for an Accountant II to join our capital assets management team. This employee performs accounting assignments involving the preparation of financial statements and reports. Applies accounting principles and procedures to ensure that financial reports and records are accurate and timely. You will help prepare reports for the State of Texas on capital assets. Day to day, you will perform cost transfers, journal entries, purchase orders for the department, and process approvals in our purchasing software.

You will be working in our University Center Tower location in the heart of the Texas Medical Center. This position is classified as non\-exempt and is eligible for all UTHealth benefits, including healthcare coverage and participation in a State of Texas retirement program. The training period will be on\-site, and whenever year\-end processing is underway, you will be on\-site. Some remote days will be allowed from time to time, as needed.

  • Position Summary:

    Provides the application of advanced accounting knowledge and abilities in the preparation of a variety of

    complex, regular, and special financial reports and statements.

    Position Key Accountabilities:

  • Utilizes university purchasing software and monthly financial statements to capture controlled and capital purchases throughout the university.
  • Produces departmental purchase analysis utilizing reports and spreadsheets. Communicates with the
  • departments to provide a detailed analysis of departmental purchases, focusing on account coding and capitalization threshold.

  • Prepares periodic financial reports through analysis of department accounts and the
  • assimilation of department financial statements to ensure compliance with the accounting regulations of those

    agencies.

  • Monitors department accounts, prepares reports of expenditures, and interprets the reports for
  • the departments.

  • Moderate to high volume data entry of university assets into the financial database.
  • Performs monthly reconciliation and closes on capital asset accounts.
  • Assists in the preparation of annual financial reports and year\-end closing.
  • Responsible for the day\-to\-day expenses and payments within the department.
  • Assists the inventory clerks with questions regarding tagging and capitalization of assets.
  • Produces various financial reports as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting or its equivalent with at least twenty\-four (24\) hours of college\-level

accounting credit.

Minimum Experience:

Two (2\) years of experience in accounting.

Asset Management experience is a plus.

Coupa experience is a plus.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount

constantly moving objects.
