POSITION SUMMARY
S. Bryer Cable TV Corporation is seeking a detail\-oriented and trustworthy Payroll Specialist to manage all aspects of payroll processing for our small team. This fully remote position is responsible for ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time, maintaining payroll records, and keeping the company in compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations.
The ideal candidate is highly organized, discreet with confidential information, and comfortable managing payroll independently for a small business. Experience with small business payroll platforms and Pennsylvania state payroll requirements is strongly preferred.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Payroll Processing
\- Process bi\-weekly or semi\-monthly payroll for all full\-time, part\-time, and hourly employees accurately and on time.
\- Calculate and apply regular wages, overtime, bonuses, commissions, and any deductions or garnishments.
\- Ensure all timesheets and hours worked are reviewed, verified, and approved prior to each payroll run.
\- Process off\-cycle payroll adjustments, corrections, and termination pay as needed.
\- Distribute pay stubs and direct deposit notifications to employees in a timely manner.
Payroll Tax \& Compliance
\- Calculate, withhold, and remit federal, Pennsylvania state, and local payroll taxes accurately and on schedule.
\- Prepare and file quarterly and annual payroll tax returns including Form 941, Pennsylvania UC\-2, and W\-2s.
\- Stay current on changes to federal and Pennsylvania payroll tax laws, minimum wage requirements, and labor regulations.
\- Ensure compliance with all applicable wage and hour laws, including overtime regulations under the FLSA.
\- Manage year\-end payroll processes including W\-2 preparation, distribution, and filing with the IRS and Pennsylvania Department of Revenue.
Benefits \& Deductions Administration
\- Administer and reconcile employee benefit deductions including health insurance, retirement contributions, and other voluntary deductions.
\- Coordinate with benefits providers to ensure deduction accuracy and timely remittance.
\- Process garnishments, child support orders, and other court\-mandated deductions in compliance with applicable law.
Recordkeeping \& Reporting
\- Maintain accurate, organized, and confidential payroll records for all current and former employees.
\- Generate payroll reports for management review including labor cost summaries, overtime tracking, and departmental breakdowns.
\- Support the bookkeeper or external CPA with payroll data needed for financial statements and tax preparation.
\- Respond to employee inquiries regarding pay, deductions, and tax withholding in a professional and timely manner.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
\- Minimum of 2\-3 years of payroll processing experience, preferably in a small business environment.
\- Proficiency with payroll software such as QuickBooks Payroll, Gusto, ADP, or Paychex.
\- Solid understanding of federal payroll tax requirements and Pennsylvania state payroll regulations.
\- Strong attention to detail with a track record of accurate, on\-time payroll delivery.
\- Ability to handle sensitive employee and financial information with absolute discretion.
\- Strong organizational skills and the ability to meet recurring payroll deadlines independently in a remote setting.
\- Reliable internet connection and a secure, dedicated home workspace.
Preferred:
\- Experience processing payroll for hourly and field\-based employees such as technicians or installation crews.
\- Familiarity with Pennsylvania local earned income tax (EIT) requirements and local tax jurisdictions.
\- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) designation is a plus.
\- Experience supporting a small, privately owned company with a lean administrative team.
\- Working knowledge of basic bookkeeping and general ledger payroll entries.
